Check out this awesome dual-enrollment initiative going on in eastern Montana highlighted in Inside Higher Ed, it's always great to see ways in which colleges are expanding access to higher ed for communities where it's not always a first priority. Sometimes just building awareness of the value of a degree early on is a critical first step.https://lnkd.in/g5G8_854

Changes to RSU 2023-24 Academic Calendar: No Fall Break, Full Week for Thanksgiving Break📣📣📣RSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Richard Beck this week confirmed a change to the 2023-24 RSU academic calendar which will impact time off during the fall semester.Following the approval of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the university will no longer have a fall break – previously scheduled for Oct. 12 and 13 — but instead, be out for the entire week in recognition of Thanksgiving, from Monday, Nov. 20 through Friday, Nov. 24.Dr. Beck said the previous structure, which included a fall break, created difficulties for classes held on Thursdays and Fridays, whereas the current structure distributes the time off over the entire week of classes (five days). For a complete list of important dates, visit the online RSU academic calendar at https://lnkd.in/giTkkNCB.#importantchanges #fallbreak #thanksgivingbreak #rsu #rogersstate

More of this, please! Independent Schools should do what they can to offer opportunities to those who need opportunity most. Rather than campaigning to abolish fee-paying schools, perhaps we should encourage more independent/state school partnerships to drive up standards and opportunities for social mobility in the state education sector. If Independent schools want to show their worth when it comes to retaining their charitable status (in addition to the many scholarships and bursaries they provide), this is surely the way to go. #educationlaw #teesside #socialmobility

Closing the GapOne of the most pressing issues facing the American education system is the achievement gap between special education students and their peers. One important approach for addressing these challenges is to focus on early intervention and support in the classroom. Additionally, it is important to ensure that special education students are included in mainstream classrooms and have access to the same resources and opportunities as their peers. Another important factor is ensuring that teachers are properly trained and supported in working with special education students. This means providing ongoing professional development opportunities. This can be a daunting task…but it doesn’t have to be! At GSEA, we have an abundance of tools and resources to help you build the bridge over that gap. Imagine a world where every school had exactly what they needed to foster success across their entire student population! That IS POSSIBLE when you partner with Global Special Education Associates! Excited yet?!! 😲😲😲Don’t wait to schedule your program review!!https://lnkd.in/eu7XBuiG317-384-8051https://lnkd.in/gTxwcaiF

The Teagle Foundation

In a new opinion piece for The Chronicle of Higher Education, Ted Hadzi-Antich Jr., Associate Professor of Government at Austin Community College and founder of The Great Questions Foundation, shares how liberal education courses and programs are growing and thriving at community colleges—many with support from the Teagle Foundation:"This perception that community colleges are more oriented toward the trades than the liberal arts is still common, but it’s also outdated and false. The primary function of community colleges in our society has been steadily shifting away from technical and pre-professional education and toward liberal education for some time now ... As students are increasingly losing access to liberal-education courses and programs at private and state institutions, the opposite seems to be happening at community colleges. The mission in practice of community colleges today is not what it was a generation ago. According to enrollment trends and degree completion, that mission, now and for the foreseeable future, has a lot to do with liberal education. In well-designed lower-division humanities and liberal-arts courses, community-college students talk about common human values and concerns, across their personal and principled differences. There, they begin to build a shared sense of being human together, as they recognize the complexity of our moral, political, and social lives."Read Ted's opinion piece: https://buff.ly/3QfwBCi Learn more about Teagle's Cornerstone: Learning for Living initiative: https://buff.ly/3VS1WMM

College Unbound, in the spirit of embracing shared values, deep traditions, and communal gathering associated with Thanksgiving, recognizes that this time carries even deeper complexities in our shared history and holds different meanings for those in our communities. For many, this period is not a celebration of mythical narratives but rather a National Day of Mourning — a solemn occasion to reflect on the historical injustices perpetrated against, and ongoing struggles faced by Indigenous peoples. As a part of College Unbound’s commitment to lifelong learning, we need to create space for truth-seeking and for dialogue about these deep complexities, dialogue that has all too often been overlooked, marginalized, and even silenced. This semester’s Reparations seminar at CU examined higher education's complicity with the land theft to build “land grant” institutions. As we navigate this season and beyond, let us continue to learn, unlearn, and relearn, always striving for a more just and equitable world. Together, we can build bridges of understanding that strengthen the fabric of our communities and promote the dignity and rights of all people — and as a college, we see this collective learning as work we must be committed to explicitly. We encourage the members of our community to find time to sit with the people you love, and to find ways to hold one another and learn together. In love and struggle,All of Us at College Unbound
