Benefits from Matcha

Matcha is a traditional Japanese green tea that comes with many health benefits.

Cancer Prevention:Matcha contains antioxidants called catechins, which are not found in other foods. The catechin found in green tea, EGCg (epigallocatechin gallate) provides cancer-fighting properties. EGCg and other catechins counteract the effects of dangerous free radicals coming from chemicals, radiation, UV rays, which can all lead to cell and DNA damage.

Aids* in Weight Loss:I don’t want this benefit to be held with too much high regard, but there is research shown that consuming matcha can help boost metabolism and burn fat.

Lowers LDL “Bad” Cholesterol:The catechin found in green tea, EGCg, also aids in lowering cholesterol levels.

FAQs

If you want to reap all the health benefits that come hand-in-hand with matcha green tea, the best way to drink matcha is with as little sugar and honey as possible. A little bit never hurts every once in a while, but making a habit of drinking real, organic matcha will help you feel great all day long.

What can I add to matcha to make it healthier? ›

Swapping out the sugary syrup for an all natural sweetener like honey, maple syrup or agave nectar is the best place to start because those sweeteners add both sweetness AND flavour (my personal favourite is honey for the flavour)!

What to mix with matcha for weight loss? ›

Incorporate Matcha into Smoothies

Blend matcha with spinach, banana, and almond milk for a delicious and energizing green smoothie that can keep you feeling full and satisfied, making it easier to stick to your weight loss plan.

What can you not mix with matcha? ›

If you do like to drink Matcha latte style, we recommend ditching the dairy and choosing plant-based milk instead. Here are the key reasons why: Dairy Milk contains a protein called Casein which binds itself to the Catechins. Catechins are plant-based compounds that are antioxidant-rich and are found in Matcha.

Is it OK to have matcha everyday? ›

Investigators discovered that the individuals who consumed the matcha beverage had an increased amount of beneficial gut bacteria and a decreased amount of harmful gut bacteria found in their feces, when compared with the placebo group.

Does matcha burn belly fat? ›

The tea naturally increases your body's total calories burned by boosting your metabolic rate. It also increases the heat produced by the body during physical activity. This sends a signal to the body to burn off more calories and get rid of fat stores in different areas, such as the belly.

What type of matcha is best for weight loss? ›

In order to gain the full weight loss benefits of matcha you need to use a high grade of matcha like our organic ceremonial matcha that contains the highest level of antioxidants, amino acids and nutrients.

Why should you not drink matcha on an empty stomach? ›

There are 2 reasons I recommend having your matcha with breakfast or after eating: Having matcha on an empty stomach can temporarily increase stomach acid levels which can then cause an upset stomach. If you're sensitive to caffeine, you may also feel more lightheaded or your heart may feel like it's racing.

What is the disadvantage of drinking matcha everyday? ›

What are the downsides to matcha? There's a myriad of health and wellness benefits to matcha but ultimately, as a tea it is still a caffeinated beverage and naturally, overconsumption can affect moods, heart health and concentration – similar to that of coffee overdose.

In between whole and fat-free falls 2% or reduced-fat milk, which is considered an agreeable pairing for matcha lattes, as it retains a foamy, creamy texture but tones down the heavy, rich flavor of whole milk.

What is the right way to drink matcha? ›

Green tea is consumed in a tea bag, which is steeped in hot water and then discarded. Matcha powder is whisked with hot water and then often combined with steamed milk to create a delicious frothy beverage, which means you're consuming the entire green tea leaf!

Is it healthier to drink matcha hot or cold? ›

While it's true that making matcha with hot water can release L-theanine, heat does not destroy the nutrients, so drinking matcha both iced or hot is wonderful! In fact, cold brew matcha is so easy, and you'll experience the same benefits!

Should I drink matcha with milk or water? ›

Please don't put milk in your good matcha, especially if you're drinking it for health reasons. The milk sticks to the polyphenols, which alters (not in a good way) the bioavailability (how well your body can absorb nutrients) of the matcha, and all the goodies just flush through.

How to get the most benefits from matcha? ›

Matcha is high in caffeine (even more than coffee and other green or black tea!) so consume it wisely. Matcha is much better without adding dairy-based milk because that appears to lower its antioxidant benefits.
