I have booked an award J flight on the QF A380.
I don’t seem to have an option to upgrade it to F. Is this standard or should I be able to upgrade to F with points ?

No, you cannot upgrade from a J award to F. Only Y and W rewards can be eligible for upgrades.

Just to clarify, I can book a Y/W ticket on QF points (classic reward booking) and request to be upgraded to J using points ?

Yes, but it's a terrible use of points. E.g. SYD>LAX is 108,400 points in J when booked as a straight classic award whereas it is 150,900 (41,900 for original booking and then 109,000 for the upgrade to J) booking Y and upgrading

I thought it was possible however in the Qantas upgrade calculator it is not possible to select "Classic Flight Reward Business" as a category of fare to upgrade.
It is possible to select "Classic Flight Reward Economy" and "Classic Flight Reward Premium Economy".
So it would appear the calculator has been updated to allow for upgrading reward bookings in general.
And Classic Flight Reward Business fares might not be upgradeable.

None of my business but why didn't you just book F?

Theses were originally W tickets. After a customer complaint got them changed to J and only needed to pay the points difference. I’m a Bronze and at the time they had no J but for Bronze but open up some seats as a favour. They checked for F but nothing coming at the time.
Saw the upgrade button when logging in and wondered why it wasn’t working.

Booked BNE/MEL/PER sectors about 10 day ago, as soon as ticketed I went into my QFF account and requested upgrades for both sectors. At T-80 hours went in and selected better seats. The first flight opened for check-in an hour & 15 mins ago, so I went in and lookd at my seating. My MEL/PER had changed from 5A to Aisle, so that was a giveaway. Went back into the booking (upgrade facility) and saw that the MEL/PER sector upgrade requested had been accepted. Happy days tomorrow afternoon - went into the seat map and selected the only seat available (1D). Pity it's only a B738 not an A332.

Honestly...slim Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results) (4) - but you have a chance around Xmas as fewer Australians travelling in J and it's before Chinese New Year.

QF11 3/12/19 - 3 pax from Y+ to J, request unsuccessful, even with a refurbished bird and the extra 6 seats. Y+ was full on that flight. Requested from my daughter's account, she is SG. Pax travelling were 2xWP and 1xSG.

QF12 16/12/19 - 3 pax from Y+ to J, also unsuccessful, and again with a refurbished A380. We were on Bert Hinkler. This time Y+ was not packed, only the older config number of pax - about 34 or so. Miss 13s seat was not usable (they said IFE at the gate, but the tray table cover had masking tape over it), and she was moved to row 32. She had three seats to herself, we had a set of three between the two of us.

Upgraded from business to first on QF35 MEL-SIN on 21 Dec. Upgrade confirmation SMS came through at exactly T-60 and received a phone call from the First team at T-24 to book in a spa appointment. Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results) (8)

I had a success last week from Y to J. QF82 (SIN-SYD) was showing J1 and the rest 0 at T-24 so I had little hope. At the gate I got a beep and was told that my upgrade was still being processed. I had to wait until boarding was well underway before I got the good news confirmed.

Out of curiosity - why request from the SG account? It's easy enough to family transfer, but maybe I'm missing something

Because my understanding is it shouldn’t matter if the request came from SG or WP as priority would be given based on travelling pax, not the requesting account. When the original requests were made, I had also hoped to have insufficient points for the upgrades in my account with some F award seats for 2020, but in the end I haven’t managed to get them.
