Detroit’s buzzing with celebrations this week!

Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Eastern Market and the grand opening of the Shepherd. Then, buzz on over to a fundraiser hosted by Bees in the D, a nonprofit dedicated to caring for the health of honeybee colonies and native pollinators.

All buzzed out? Fear not! Learn more about a guided riverfront stroll, a 5K and comedy show in Hamtramck, and a mental health event. Ready for some fun?

🍣 Delight your palate with flavors from the AAPI community in Eastern Market at Night Market Three, presented by Little Asian Bites at Shed 5. Meet your AAPI neighbors and bask in the city’s diverse culture. Free.

This weekend

🖼️ Feast your eyes on beautiful art and dive into delicious dishes with the Library Collective at the Shepherd’s grand opening on Saturday. At the event in Indian Village, watch the unveiling of It Takes A Village skate park designed by Tony Hawk and McArthur Binion, peruse late Detroit artist Charles McGee’s “Time is Now” exhibition and listen to lovely music performed by Urban Art Orchestra. Free.

🐝 Get your lips sticky from local honey and mead at B.Nektar’s Detroit Honey and Mead Tasting fundraiser in Ferndale. Proceeds will go to Bees in the D. Dress like a queen and watch out for stings (Kidding! Bees haven’t been formally invited). Registration required. $40.

🎊 Show your love for the Dequindre Cut’s Freight Yard as this all-ages beer garden celebrates its season opening on Friday night! Skate along the Dequindre Cut with Motown Roller Club, sing some songs with the Karaoke Kingz, then grab a tasty drink from the Freight Yard bar. Famished from all that rolling? Grab some grub at Big Bo’s Grill, then honor your kid at heart with ice cream, s’mores and a bonfire. Sounds like fun! Free.

👟 Run, jog or walk the Hamtramck Health Hike 5K on Saturday morning. You’ll explore the city on foot (at varying velocities) and learn more about healthy, drug-free lifestyles with the Hamtramck Drug Free Community Coalition. Bonus: If you’re one of the first 400 registrants, you’ll get free swag, lunch, ice cream, and entry for raffle prizes. Registration required. Free.

🏞️ Learn about the Detroit riverfront on a guided walking tour Saturday. These volunteer-led tours will provide an overview of the history of the riverfront and will take you through some of its most fabulous areas. If you can’t make it this weekend, tours will take place on Saturdays through Aug. 31. Free.

🍳 Explore international flavors and culinary influences on Saturday at a cooking workshop at the Lasky Recreation Center on Fenelon Street. Hosted by Building Bridges and Global Detroit, this class aims to bring together residents from Hamtramck, Banglatown and East Davison Village. Registration required. Free.

🎶 Grab dinner and enjoy live music Saturday night for the kickoff of the Boston-Edison summer concert series. Detroiter and celebrated pianist Brendon Davis and Muze Society will fill the Berry Gordy Mansion lawns with jazz. Registration required. $70 for single shows, $360 for the entire concert series.

😆 Laugh until your sides hurt at the Women in Comedy Festival at Planet Ant in Hamtramck on Friday and Saturday. More than 80 comedians will take the stage, including Finn St. John, Melanie Hearn, Alexa Stanton and Kayla Engeman. Then, attend some workshops and a “Bad Bitch Brunch” with Brittany Brave. We bet the bloody marys and mimosas are gonna serve 💅🏾. $10 in advance, $15 at the door, $65 for a two-day pass.

🌸 If you still have energy left on Sunday, head to Flower Day in Eastern Market. This annual event offers Detroiters the opportunity to add more color to our homes while supporting vendors from Detroit and all over the Midwest. Tulips or peonies? Free.
