Welcome to IGN's walkthrough for Metroid Dread. This page features information on your third exploration of the Dairon Region, including how to locate the Central Unit, defeat the fourth Yellow E.M.M.I. Robot, and get the Speed Booster upgrade.

Now that you’ve arrived back in Dairon, you’re poised to finally be able to reach the Central Unit here and end the yellow EMMI-4’s reign of terror.

Video Guide: Getting the Speed Booster

Head through the watery room to the right of the shuttle and carefully shoot away all the centipedes moving along the water before rolling through and counter attacking the floating creature at the end of the tunnel.

Once in the EMMI Zone again, you’ll start off in a very bad spot - the EMMI will probably already be lurking nearby, and directly below you is a submerged portion of the room. While the EMMI will be somewhat slowed by the water, you will be hindered even more, and will have to quickly make use of your Phantom Cloak to grab onto any ceiling magnet rails you can to evade detection - or move to the right to find a small alcove to hide in.

Once you have a bit of breathing room, carefully use the side magnet rails to get out of the water and hug the right side to find a long shaft going up. The exit won’t be at the top - but a bouncing mine will be, so instead you have some other choices.

The quickest way to process is sliding to the left of the shaft and dashing across the large gap to a pressure plate shutter - but this method leaves you wide open to detection, even if the next door is just to the left.

If you want to play it safer, head up the shaft on the right until you can slide into the next crawlspace on the left platform to find an area to hide in while the EMMI passes by, and then keep going left to use the far left magnetic rail wall to carefully climb down towards the next room.

The good news is this next room is the last you’ll have to sneak through -- but it’s a big one. You’ll want to make it all the way to the top right of this large area, and it involves taking one of three paths to the far left to climb up to the next level. There’s nothing in the way of magnet rails or alcoves to hide in anywhere here, so you’ll want to move very slowly to avoid giving EMMI your location to come inspect, or use Phantom Cloak as much as possible (even at the cost of health) to get to the other side. Don’t be afraid to drop back down a level if it means getting out of the EMMI’s way, as you don’t want to risk bumping into it.

On the next main platform, the hall ends on the right with a sealed door, so keep sticking to the left and make your way up through the gap at the top to make a mad dash for the opening on the far right. There’s only a few ways the EMMI can hop up to reach you here, so hopefully you have enough distance to not be there when it begins searching.

You’ll finally be at Dairon’s Central Unit now, and like you’ve come to expect, you need only dodge lasers and shoot the armored brain until its armor falls. There’s only one regular turret but three ring lasers here, which isn’t so bad when you realize you can explode the rings with charged shots to get health and missiles back. Take you time, and line up you shots to defeat the Central Unit, and gain the Omega Cannon once more.

Return to the previous room, and remember to find a nice long hallway with a backdoor escape as you wait for the EMMI to find you. Thankfully, even with its increased speed, it will slow down to stalk you as you fire off your Omega Stream to shatter its faceplate.

Get some extra distance on the robot once its stunned, and find a new hall to ready your cannon for a final strike at its head.

Defeating the Yellow EMMI-4 will give you its power, the Speed Booster!

This upgrade allows you to build up speed when running on a flat surface to break through Speed Blocks and carve new paths. You’ll also be able to crouch down to temporarily preserve the momentum, and rocket yourself upward to reach new heights or break other barriers!

Give it a test run by moving to the far left side of the room on the platform under the entrance to the Central Unit, and activate the Speed Booster while running right to smash through a series of Speed Boost Blocks. Keep the momentum going as you crash through the next room and jump across the short gap to create an exit out of the EMMI Zone leading right.

Dairon Energy Tank #2

Energy Part Tank Upgrade:
As you ram through the Speed Blocks in the EMMI Zone, don’t forget to return to the very first barrier you tore down - you’ll also have unlocked access to an Energy Part hiding in a small alcove above the Speed Blocks!

Exiting the EMMI Zone will lead you to a room with various creatures, a turret robot, and an Ammo Recharge Station. There’s also a small hole blocked by Speed Blocks, but you can’t exactly get a running start into them, so head through to the next tall room and ignore the green door and Missile Tank as you head up and Morph Ball Bomb the hole on the left to re-enter the other part of the now EMMI-free Zone.

Reach the Yellow Teleportal

You’ll be in a long hallway under the main EMMI Zone, and you may have an idea of what to do here now. Keep running and activate the Speed Booster, dashing past the mines, but stop and crouch before you hit the wall. Jump and tilt the control stick up to launch yourself upwards and through several Speed Block barriers until you hit the top of the EMMI Zone.

Dairon Energy Tank #3

Energy Tank Upgrade:
Like before, the process of breaking apart all the Speed Blocks here will uncover an upgrade - you just need to fall down the pit you just opened up a bit and look on the left side for an uncovered Energy Tank.

Dairon Missile Tank #2

Missile Tank Upgrade:
While you’re here in this part of the EMMI Zone, make your way to the room on the middle left of this large part of the zone, and head over the magnet rails through another small door along the bottom left.

This led to a dead end earlier, but now you can find a long hallway with Speed Blocks along the far right wall - so dash past the bouncing mine to hit the wall and uncover the Missile Tank beyond.

Back where you busted up a path by diving up the chute to break Speed Blocks, head right through the door next to where you rammed into the ceiling for another cleared EMMI room, and look for a long path on the top level with Speed Blocks in your way to smash through a bunc hfo sections running right.

Dairon Energy Tank #4

Energy Part Tank Upgrade:
After bashing down both sets of Speed Blocks, you may notice the area blinking on the map. Fire some missiles up on the ceiling of this area until you uncover a Missile Block, and a Bomb Block above it. You’ll need to be quick here for a combo action: Fire a missile at the first block, then turn into a morph ball and jump, triggering a bomb in mid jump. Jump again once you land to have the bomb detonate and propel you further, letting you plant a second bomb against the block. Do this quick enough, and a path to a ledge will open up for you to crawl into and get the Energy Part, and you can keep rolling left to fall back down.

Moving into the next room on the right, you can spy another Speed Block on the top right section that you can jump into by running on the nearby platform (once cleared of enemies). However, it only leads to an elevator room blocked by a large gate with a blue light, so instead take the door below down to the Save Station.

Moving right from the Save Station into the first Dairon room, and get some speed running past the Energy Recharge Station before crouching down in the middle of the room -- then rocket upward to create a path to the top floor, and the Yellow Teleportal back to Artaria.

Dairon Missile Tank #3

Missile Tank Upgrade:
Clearing the path up through the top of the room using the Speed Booster jump will also reveal a Missile Tank that’s yours to take on the way to the Yellow Teleportal.

Now you'll finally be able to return to Artaria and more fully explore it thanks to your new abilities, which means a lot of new tanks to find, and a new beam to add to your arsenal.
